‘It’s your island, so help us to shape its future ‘We are listening’
Islanders are being asked to help shape the future of their home. Today sees the launch of Guernsey Tomorrow – aimed specifically at the next generation.
The initiative is an unprecedented consultation from the Policy Council’s strategic land planning group which is reviewing the States Strategic Land Use Plan: how we live on and use the land. This will set the framework for the Urban and Rural Area plans. On Saturday, more than 60 invited guests will meet at Les Cotils to take part in an interactive workshop.
‘We want to know what people think about the way that the island is changing. By working with islanders, we want to find the best options for the way forward,’ said Bernard Flouquet, deputy chief minister and chairman of the strategic land planning group.
The meeting is not for politicians: members from many of the island’s non-government organisations will discuss development pressures, opportunities and constraints facing the island, both now and over the next 20 years.
‘Saturday is just the start of the consultation,’ said Deputy Flouquet. (from thisisguernsey)
Simple solution in my view
Stop building any more Offices...
Re-vitalise the town
No more greenfield sites to be built on...

Re: ‘It’s your island, so help us to shape its future ‘We are listening’
GUERNSEY’S government is now in listening mode. The first wave of islanders to give their thoughts on how they think the island should move forward gathered at Les Cotils at the weekend.
They will now take the workshop process out to others, but familiar themes were already coming to the top of the pile including sewage treatment, the need to use derelict greenhouse sites and everyone’s right to a decent standard of housing.
It is all part of Guernsey Tomorrow, an unprecedented consultation exercise by the States that will feed into the political process.
But it has been deliberately designed to be free of political interference at this stage, with 60 people, representing a diverse set of groups and interests, present at the opening workshop.
‘They are really bending over backwards to make sure government is seen to be listening to people,’ said Guernsey Bicycle Group chairman Francis Paul. ‘They are representing us, so it makes sense and it’s hitting the nail on the head.’

mmm States listening... to what I wonder...
