Rise in cemetery vandalism denied
Officials in Jersey have denied there is an escalating problem with vandalism in island cemeteries. Businessman Alvin Aaron from St Helier had raised concerns over what he claimed was an increase in drug use and other anti-social behaviour. He said the lack of respect shown by some people was appalling and has set up a "Respect" action group to highlight the problem. But municipal services said the issues were being dealt with. Dog walkers Its director Tony Andrews said there was no evidence that vandalism was a growing problem in St Helier. However, he has urged people to report any concerns to the police or Town Hall. He told BBC News a number of people had already been cautioned for allowing dogs to use the cemeteries indiscriminately. "It's not acceptable and we will follow through with these people," he said.
