Education Minister: James Reed
After a four-way contest, St Ouen Deputy James Reed has been elected as the new Education Minister.
He won the seat in the States after an election involving four votes before he gained the necessary majority over Deputy Roy Le Hérissier, Senator Paul Routier and Deputy Judy Martin.
After the first vote, which saw Deputy Martin drop out with 11 votes, the second vote resulted in Deputy Le Hérissier gaining 20 votes and both Senator Routier and Deputy Reed, 16 votes.
A decider was then held between Senator Routier and Deputy Reed which resulted in a win for Deputy Reed by 29 votes to 23.
In the final vote, Deputy Reed gained 30 votes and Deputy Le Herissier, 22.
The result means that Senator Routier has lost a ministerial role, having been proposed by Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur first for Health and Social Services and then Education. He was formerly Social Security Minister.
The elections remaining are that for Housing - between the current Housing Minister, Senator Terry Le Main, proposed by Senator Le Sueur, and Senator Alan Breckon - and those for the heads of committees and scrutiny panels.
The Ministers elected so far, with number of votes of each candidate, are as follows:
Treasury: Senator Philip Ozouf (38 votes); Deputy Geoff Southern (13).
Economic Development: Senator Alan Maclean (32 votes); Deputy Mike Higgins (20).
Environment: Senator Freddie Cohen who retained his seat unopposed.
Health: Senator Jim Perchard (31 votes); Senator Paul Routier (21).
Home Affairs: Senator Ian Le Marquand (34 votes); Senator Stuart Syvret (18).
Social Security: Deputy Ian Gorst (36 votes); Deputy Geoff Southern (16).
Transport: St Brelade Constable Mike Jackson (33 votes); Deputy Robert Duhamel (19).
Education: Deputy James Reed (30); Deputy Le Herissier (22).
