Alcohol Free Zones - Sunken Gardens
Long-term alcohol free zones could be used more widely in Guernsey to tackle anti-social behaviour…. Island FM revealed yesterday, a booze ban is on its way in and around the Sunken Gardens in Town. It will be in place from this Sunday until the end of British Summer Time. But Sergeant Andy Hockey says it could be used to tackle other hotspots for drink-related problems in the island.
IMO opinion they will be creating alcohol free places - and the offenders will just move on to another location!!!!

The leader in to the interview with the policeman from the presenter said that it was in response to complaints received from people in the area!

My point exactly - so wait for complaints from people in other areas once the drinkers have found another spot!!

Re: Alcohol Free Zones - Sunken Gardens
Might be a new idea but lets call a building a "Pub" and let all the drinkers go there to drink!! Another radical idea, let's put an age on when you can drink!
Naw.... no-one would agree with that!!!

Re: Alcohol Free Zones - Sunken Gardens
Trying to think of people in the area of the Sunken Gardens - not really residential is it!!!! St James, the Courthouse, The Greffe, the ex Police Station - as far as I can visualise it must be the residents of the OGH Hotel........

Sunken garden is going dry
THE sunken garden at Ann’s Place and its surrounding area will become an alcohol-free zone from Sunday.
The measure is being introduced on a six-month trial basis following complaints to police of antisocial behaviour, drunkenness and littering in the area.
The exclusion zone includes the war memorial and surrounding roads.
‘Police officers will have the power to confiscate and discard alcohol containers on which the seals have been broken and people could be prosecuted,’ said Sergeant Andy Hockey.
‘However, officers’ discretion will be at the forefront and any incidents will be handled in an appropriate manner.’
He said the aim was to work with people and not against them. Reported problems involved people of all ages.
‘The bulk of youngsters are really good and this is not just aimed at them,’ said Sgt Hockey. (from thisisguernsey)
Will it solve the problem, maybe yes in that aera, but it will push it somewhere else..

Re: Alcohol Free Zones - Sunken Gardens
Remember the little summer house type structure that used to be in the sunken gardens? That was pulled down some years ago. Was that because the old soaks and homeless types used to sleep overnight there?

But are they doing it because they can? How far can "THEY" extend this NO GO area?

I live opposite the London House - I'll keep my eyes and ears open :x ..... although banning booze in pubs that allow Karioke could be quite pleasing :-)
