health [water ]
physicians rarely promote the curative properties of water,
but the late Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D. (aka “Dr. Batman”)
studied water’s effect on the human body and found it to be one
of the best pain relievers and preventative therapies. His
pioneering work shows that Unintentional Chronic Dehydration
(UCD) contributes and even produces pain and many degenerative
diseases which can be prevented and treated by increasing water
intake.
Dr. Batman stated that a dry mouth is not a reliable indicator
of dehydration. The body signals its water shortage by producing
pain. Dehydration actually produces pain and many degenerative
diseases, including asthma, arthritis, hypertension, angina,
adult-onset diabetes, lupus, and multiple sclerosis......
Dr. Batman’s message to the world was, “You are not sick,
you are thirsty. Don’t treat thirst with medication.”

The importance of drinking enough water cannot be overstated. As well as making you feel good, it can have a real bearing on your health. In fact, constantly not drinking enough water can cause serious health problems, as it says in this article http://www.womenrepublic.co.uk/health/water/ I, like a lot of people, didn't really give what i drink much thought until recently.

Yes ,there is a few books on the subject of drinking water ,
the wter of life ,the bodies many cries for water ,
there are many write up on deliberating illness cured by just water and a pinch of salt
and wrinkles fade ,,
I drink 1gallon a day and have at times gone up to 3gallons ,
of purified water ,but started slowly and built up ,and always check with a health care provider before adding a pinch of salt ,
especially people with high blood pressure of kidney problems

Re: health [water ]
Anybody else researched distilled water?
I bought a distiller and was drinking it copiously, until I was told it actually leaches the good stuff (minerals) out of you.
Maybe I should make whisky instead eh?
It kills worms.

Re: health [water ]
Blimey, there are loads of snake-oil purveyors out there.
If you feel the need to drink plenty of water, have it out of the tap, if you really can't stand the taste of chlorine, let it stand in a jug for a few minutes and let in evaporate.
Just as with green issues, there is so must bunkum around in health that it is hard to know what it true and what isn't but there are some myths that have been disproved:
1. Drinking excessive water is not beneficial and can be harmful.
2. You do not need to drink 8 glasses of water per day. An average person needs about 2 litres of water per day, but this can come from any source, including food.
3. Tea and coffee are not diuretic.
4. Bottled water can contain high levels of pollutants and bacteria, much higher than is allowed in mains water. Chemicals can also leach out of the plastic bottles, hence the use-by dated. It is also very energy intensive and bad for the environment.

Make Mine A Chardonnay or Pino Grigio
Water intoxication (also known as hyper-hydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by over-consumption of water. Normal, healthy (physically, nutritionally and mentally) individuals have little reason to worry about accidentally consuming too much water. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume high amounts of water, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet excessive amounts of fluid are still consumed.
Water can be considered a poison when super-concentrated just like any other substance. The recommendation from the medical field is to drink about 1.5-3 litres per day depending upon body mass. Water intoxication would only occur at levels far higher than that.

Crikey, just doing the sums here, to drink 3 litres of water with the usual splash in a glass of Malt means about a gallon of the good stuff everyday!!!!

Re: health [water ]
Water is so important to the body and the mind. See here for a guide to the health benefits of the clear stuff. But like all things in life moderation is the key. Drinking gallons of water a day will do more harm than good.
