Re: Silver Surfers At Home
Hi all, and thank you for reading this thread.
If it wasn't for a few members here, the project wouldn't have even been possible!!!! Suppose some of you might've thought this was pie in the sky, but now its coming to fruition!!
The official site (which im trying to update) is http://www.ssah.org.gg/
Now.. Longue Rue House have offered kindly to be the pilot project. Being a States Home, it took a while to get things sorted. We have a broadband line being installed very shortly (kindly donated by Sure CW) at the home by C W Engineers. (More details to follow) We also have hardware donated by myself and other parties. http://www.FastFS.com/ has also contributed to the project with advice and hardware so thanks goes out to Jonah for his help to the project. We are also very grateful to everyone else who have offered support via our support forum on our site and a meeting will be requested shortly to run through logistics.
Being a project starting from scratch, and trying to benefit elderly people and give them a new skill to help them in life, its entirely done with the goodwill of the people involved. Its a totally free service and i hope this will extend to further homes in the island!
We are in need of a decent sized desk for the desktop system to be situated. We have the base system etc... We also need if any of you have any kicking round the house and wish to donate...
A Set of Speakers
A Printer
A Desk
Maybe another System to enable a few more residents to learn at same time.
And also, we will need kind hearted people* who could give up maybe an hour of their time a week to help the residents learn a new skill. I will be participating in this venture along with a few confirmed venture, but as i work full time along with others, theres always room for additional help !!
Once again, thanks for reading this thread, this project is GO GO GO!!! and whatever support you can give to this project is gratefully appreciated.
Feel free to PM me on here or email me on admin@ssah.co.uk for further details!
Kind Regards,
Barney.
*We're in talks with the homes and at present we are of the consensus that as we are dealing with vulnerable clients, a Police check may be required if you wish to offer services directly to the residents

Re: Silver Surfers At Home
My Mum asked me this evening about buying a laptop, she said that a bloke comes round to your house, and teaches you to use one, she saw it on the news. lol, i said no mumsey, you have to be in an old peoples home to take advantage of ss@h. so that's that, no way will she go into an old peoples home as she is only 80 !! lol

Re: Silver Surfers At Home
thanks KK
The residents at Longue Rue House are getting to grips with the computer. So much so, Margaret Le Blond (pictured below) had caused a bit of a stir, using the machine every morning!! I decided it was time for a second machine, kindly donated by Fast Fix Services. Margaret is very pleased with the new machine as she can continue to play card games every morning now while the other residents have a free machine to use for the internet! Thanks again Jonah!
