Food security Empty Food security

If Guernsey doesn't grow more of its own food it will struggle to deal with a global food crisis in the future.

That's the stark message from the Director of The Soil Association.

Patrick Holden is in Guernsey to talk on how the island can and should feed itself.

He believes food security is emerging as an international issue that should be acted on locally.

So will the States support the cause for more local produce to be grown... somehow I have my doubts

Food security Empty Allotments and health

Post by !jersey Thu 25 Feb 2010, 10:55 am

I have an allotment in Jersey and grew piles of veg last year
especially peas and beans, to much to eat so turned loads of runner beans into wine by fermenting with yeast & sugar so the value of the crop increased, but the health aspects are worth doing the digging and carrying water, the fresh air, good for the mind , its the best thing ever to grow your own if you can find a small plot of ground to work.

I recomend you watch out for this nutrasweet stuff called ASPARATAME (E951) in your food, as I discovered it in Frosty Jacks Cider that was making me ill by poisoning, it was'nt mentioned in the ingrediants on the tin, I had to call the companys lab to find out if it was in the recipie, and they said yes!
