Guernsey could take lead on tackling next wave of highs
GUERNSEY is to have its own misuse of drugs committee to decide on classifications for future legal highs.
It will be formed over the next week, according to Health and Social Services minister Hunter Adam.
The move follows HSSD and the Home Department’s decision to ban and classify certain substances, including those that are found in Spice.
Deputy Adam (pictured) said something had to be done to stop the problems with emerging drugs of concern.
‘We know what alcohol does to us, we know what heroin does to us and we know what the old cannabis does to us,’ he said. ‘The problem with these other drugs is that we don’t know what effects they have.’
He said there had been one suicide in Guernsey that had been related to the use of a legal high.
More details of the Guernsey Misuse of Drugs Advisory Group will be revealed in coming weeks.(from thisisguernsey)
