Sark eyes-up sea power
Sark is considering its options on tidal energy.
Over the next few months the island is likely to reach an agreement with an offshore energy company to carry out a feasibility study on creating an offshore power plant.
The waters around the Channel Islands are recognised as having the most potential in the British Isles for economic production of tidal energy.
At a recent public meeting in Sark, the Alderney Renewable Energy Company outlined how underwater turbines can tap into the energy of the sea.
Sark's general purposes committee want to move towards a feasibilty study.
Establishing a tidal farm would not require any investment from Sark which would receive a royalty for every unit of electricity exported from local waters
Maybe they can ask the Barclay Bros for a loan to fund it....
