Two Channel Island pubs have entered a national competition to find Britain's most famous.

The Albion Tavern in Guernsey and the Peirson in Jersey are owned by the Liberation Group.

The Albion is the closest pub in Britain to a church. It is a matter of inches away from the Town Church thanks to a gargoyle which protrudes from the Church. It is commonly known as the Kosy Korner.

The Peirson in St Helier is named after Major Francis Peirson who led British and Jersey forces in their efforts to repel a French invasion in 1781. The Battle of Jersey was the last, and perhaps the shortest battle fought on British soil. Bullet holes in the walls still remind drinkers of the day Jersey's freedom was defended.

Islanders can vote for their chosen boozer at www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/foodanddrink/top-100-famous-pubs/.

If The Albion and The Peirson make it into the top 100, they will receive commemorative red plaques to display outside. (from CTV)
