Guernsey athletes get cash reward for Delhi success
The £3,000 has been shared between tennis star Heather Watson, fullbore shooters Adam and Peter Jory, and the Guernsey men's triples bowls team. The money is intended to help the chosen athletes pursue their sports. Guernsey's chef de mission David Harry said: "The money recognises what they did to get to the Games and also what they achieved at the Games." He added: "To get the money they had to get into the last eight in their sport, and if there were less than 16 competitors they had to be in the top half." "The total of £3,000 is made up of three cheques of £1,000." Watson reached the quarter-finals of the ladies' tennis singles in Delhi, while the men's triples bowls team of Garry Collins, Dan De La Mare and Gary Pitschou came fifth. Fullbore shooters Adam and Peter Jory, finished the highest of any Guernsey athletes, coming fourth in the pairs competition, just four points short of the medals. From BBC. Good for them.... need all the support they can get and they certainly raise the profile of the Bailiwick. Do you agree? Is this reasonable? |
