Jersey is 'neutral' over 'pink pound' tourists
The head of Jersey tourism said the island does not target gay tourists specifically or advertise in specialist magazines. David de Carteret said Jersey is neutral when it comes to attracting the so-called "pink pound". There are a few guest houses in the island which are recommended on websites as being "gay friendly". But the lack of a discrimination law in Jersey means hotel owners could refuse homosexual guests if they want to. Mr de Carteret said there had been no incidents reported recently and that attitudes towards homosexual tourists have relaxed. He said the island's target markets for tourism are families and couples aged over-55 of any sexuality. "I think Jersey is very open minded these day, I have no evidence to say at all that anybody like that has not been accepted. "Business is business and I'm sure hoteliers and others within the industry will be very happy to receive visitors without any prejudice whatsoever." |
