Guernsey hotel owner wants local rating system scrapped
Claims that scrapping Guernsey's hotel rating system would save the States money have been denied.
Simon Vermeulin described VisitGuernsey's system as "outdated and unnecessary".
The proprietor of La Grande Mare said many tourists now rely on online reviews while many hotels sign up to the AA star rating.
However tourism officials said no savings would be made as checks were necessary to issue boarding permits.
VisitGuernsey is the island's States-owned tourism authority.
Since the rise in popularity of online review sites, many hotel and guest owners have seen an increase in business, although some have taken legal action, claiming unfair and malicious reviews have had a detrimental affect on business.
Online reviews include guests' comments on a variety of issues, including food, service, cleanliness, location and value for money. (from BBC)
