ID cards to fight illegal immigration
Islanders will have to show an ID card before they move house or change jobs, if new plans to control immigration are approved by the States.
As part of the biggest shake-up of housing and employment law for several decades, the Chief Minister’s department is proposing to issue the cards to stop people living or working in the Island illegally.
Assistant Chief Minister Paul Routier, who is in charge of introducing the reforms, said that the cards would deal with a growing ‘white van man’ problem of tradesmen coming from the UK and elsewhere to work on building sites without the proper permissions.
The proposed introduction of the cards would end the need for those currently locally-qualified for housing purposes from having to apply to the Housing department when they moved house. (from JEP)

Good idea Jersey! If it works we should think about implementing it here, but didn't the coalition government scrap the UK ID cards? .
