Islands miss out on some Waitrose offers

The supermarket chain Waitrose has admitted Channel Island shoppers could have misunderstood its promotional leaflets, leading them to believe all UK special offers would be copied locally.

Waitrose arrived in the islands this year after buying Sandpiper CI's five supermarkets - three in Jersey and two in Guernsey.

A pamphlet distributed in Guernsey and Jersey to promote the company and explain its aims and values said: "We've made a commitment to provide quality food, whilst giving everyone great value for money. That's why we'll run special offers for you on Guernsey [and Jersey], in the same way as we do on the mainland - making sure you never miss out."

But a national print advert published on Saturday 26th March for a £10 dinner for two offer contained the words "Excludes Channel Islands" in the small print.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We accept that some of our early marketing material was not as clear as it could have been. We are currently unable to replicate all of our price based promotions in the Channel Islands at this time as our IT systems do not yet support this.

"However, the good news is that our shoppers here can already benefit from a wide choice of promotions including "Buy One Get One Free" and many price reductions and we are working to ensure that they will have an even wider choice going forward, including our meal deals. Whenever an offer is not applicable to the Channel Islands we do state this in our advertising." (from CTV)

imo all waitrose stores should be on an even playing field...why did they put a system in that cant work out a £10 deal..once again we have been duped..lets see how long we have to wait before we get the dine in for 2 offer..probably as long as we waited for the m&s to apply to the islands x
