Stabbing and an unexplained death
Police in Guernsey are investigating a stabbing and, in a separate unlinked case, an "unexplained death".
The stabbing happened opposite the Church of Scotland in the Grange in St Peter Port in the early hours of this morning. At around 1:45am a 20-year-old man sustained a knife wound. He was taken to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for treatment: his condition is not thought to be life-threatening. Three men have been arrested.
Meanwhile, earlier in the night, in a separate incident, the police, ambulance, and fire and rescue services were called to Park Lane in St Peter Port, a pedestrian lane just off Trinity Square, where a man had been found dead. The 48- year-old lived locally. He has not yet been formally identified.
The police estimate he died at some time between 11pm on Saturday and 1am today. The area has been cordoned off and members of the Civil Protection Volunteers are manning the site to prevent anyone accessing it. Our reporter has been to the site and can confirm a police tent is covering the spot where the body was found. A neighbour has told him he saw officers searching the area, including a nearby skip, though the police themselves are only describing the case as an "unexplained death" ahead of a post-mortem examination. The results of that are expected later tonight or tomorrow morning.
In both cases, the police are asking anybody who saw anything to get in touch on 725111 or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. (from CTV)
