Guernsey gets extra day's holiday for Queen's jubilee

Guernsey will follow England and Wales in having an
additional public holiday in 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The States agreed to an additional public holiday on Tuesday, 5 June.

It also approved moving the May public holiday from Monday, 28 May to Monday,
4 June.

The Commerce and Employment Department said not following England and Wales
could be seen as "a personal snub to the Queen".

Culture and Leisure Minister Mike O'Hara called on the public to celebrate
the island's special link to the Crown during the jubilee year. (from BBC)

so i assume scotland is snubbing the queen then according to carla macnulty bauer...another holiday that we dont really need x

Be fair Thistle I am sure plenty of people will appreciate an extra days holiday whatever the reason. No skin off your nose is it, as you're not working anyway.

I am looking forwards to all the celebrations .and the time off with my hubby.
it will not just be a day to celebrate but a whole year..
and it is something to celebrate as it is not often we get this in our history .so i will be making the most of it all.

Another day i won't get , but to be fair i really don't mind this one , not a lot to celebrate IMO.

for your information kingcole i do work a few hours a week but what has that got to do with you .the extra day off is costing the employers a lot of money in these uncertain times.

OK OK keep your shirt on Thistle. Alright so you work a 'few hours' a week, you still should not let your personal dislike of the Royal family deny others the right to an occassional extra day off.

it will be a 4 day holiday kingcole...my dislike of the royal family doesnt deny anybody else having the day off...there are enough bank holidays in a year without adding to them..at least i am working a few hours a week and caring for my daughter which is a full time job.do you .fancy swapping with me for a couple of months

Four days ?? How come ? According to the lead post it is one day.
