Driver trapped after race accident

There has been a spectacular accident at yesterday afternoon's sand race meeting at Vazon.

Nigel Ozanne (45) was attempting to take the lead in a purpose-built sand race buggy when his vehicle caught the vehicle in front at 90mph. It subsequently summersaulted five times.

All of the wheels but one came off, leaving Nigel trapped inside.

A Fire and Rescue Service team used cutting gear to free the driver who was in pain but remained conscious. A Fire Service spokesman said the buggy had been fitted with a roll cage which had protected the driver.

He was eventually extracted from the vehicle and placed on a spinal board. He was taken to A&E with injuries to his shoulder, his ankles, his right knee and his right elbow.

The racing event was stopped following the accident.

Thankfully.....Nigel wasn't seriously injured... He is very bruised and battered but amazingly just ONE broken bone.......Get well soon Nige ((hugs)) xx

I am glad Nige is ok , i just hope the accident didn't make him any shorter ...........
