Alderney Ambulance service needs you... Empty Alderney Ambulance service needs you...

Alderney’s ambulance service is in desperate need of help after the resignation of two key workers.

St John Alderney needs drivers, lifters and general helpers to join the emergency service, which deals with more than 300 callouts a year.

Ros Michel, chairman of St John Alderney, said: "Some crew members are finding that their work commitments are becoming more onerous, and so can give less time to St John.

"Two of our long-standing members, Brenda Webb and Diane Allen, have recently had to resign. We thank them both for their dedicated and loyal service to the ambulance team."

Mrs Michel said volunteers needed to be physically fit: "We do have to lift patients frequently, so a certain degree of fitness is necessary, but otherwise no qualifications are required, although a driving licence is an advantage. Please think if you could help us maintain the service for the island."

Mrs Michel went on to outline the benefits of joining St John.

"Working with the ambulance team is good fun, rewarding and can be exciting. Everyone is part-time and we can arrange sessions to fit in with your job and lifestyle.

"Training takes place on Mondays from 6-8pm and nobody is sent to an emergency until they are ready."

Uniforms are provided for new members, while the pay is £12 an hour for call-outs and £10 an hour if you are on standby.

Anyone interested in joining should call Mrs Michel on 823452 or Mel Walden on 822152 or 07781 119891.
