Donkeys under the hammer Empty Donkeys under the hammer

A collection of decorated fibreglass donkeys is being auctioned off in Guernsey.

The 42 masterpieces will go under the hammer a week on Sunday in aid of the Guernsey Adult Literacy Project.

They have been on display around the island for the past few months, with many visitors and islanders following a map to visit them all.

Each donkey has been sponsored by a local company and decorated by a local artist or community group.

They will go up for auction at the Performing Arts Centre on Sunday 18 September at 2pm, and will be on show from 9.30am on the day. Channel Television's Gary Burgess will be the auctioneer!

GALP director Trevor Wakefield said: "We have been delighted with the public's response to the Donkey Parade and now look forward to the auction. The fund-raising element of the project will come from the auction so we hope there are lots of bidders who are able to come along".
