Guernsey ramps up Liberation Day plans

Preparations are underway for Guernsey's Liberation Day celebrations.

A special working group's been set up to plan events for the ninth of May.

Insiders say they want to make the day another special one for all islanders to remember, but with the added bonus of extra events in the following weeks for the Diamond Jubilee.

No formal plans have been announced as yet, but the minister in charge is promising something memorable.

Deputy Mike O'Hara, Culture and Leisure minister, said, "It's countdown time. Don't forget we have Liberation and the Diamond Jubilee. We're working together. A tremendous amount of commitment by the group. And what is going on, there's so much going on. It'll be a big one this year."
