Is your boiler on the blink?
Many islanders are saying their boilers have packed in. Jersey Gas say it is caused by higher residue levels in the island's gas supply.
A black tar-like substance is causing 40 to 50 gas boilers to break down every day.
Air is mixed with gas supplies to the Channel Islands normally without incident.
However, the particular batch in current use is causing a reaction which makes some valves stop working.
The gas is said to meet specifications, but is being replaced a different source of gas over the next couple of weeks.
Robert Gardner from Jersey Gas said, "Our investigations have identified that despite being within specification, there have been occasions where the residue levels are slightly elevated. When this happens it generates residue which can cause some boilers to shut down."
Jersey and Guernsey Gas say they're confident this will solve the problem. They are replacing the part free of charge, but that means they are having to pay out what they admit is a, "considerable sum". They stress that there is no danger to householders as a result of the problem.
Customers who find that their boiler has shut down without reason should contact Jersey Gas on 755550.

Oh ye of little faith!I seem to recall we had something similar in guernsey a few years back.LPG is not as easy to "engineer" as natural gas.
