New Homes on Agricultural Land

Homes for the over 55s will be built on agricultural land

States Members have approved plans for 26 acres of greenfield sites.

Some first-time-buyer houses will also be built.

The plans had been criticised by environmentalists and some politicians said it was wrong to go ahead before a new Island Plan's drawn up.

But Assistant Environment Minister Deputy Anne Pryke said there's a desperate need for these new homes.

So don't worry plenty more greenfields to use....

Well the choice will be greenfields, or another waterfront just for housing

While I don't believe there is a need to build on 'green field' sites, I don't have a problem per se; there are plenty of green field sites that could be used for development without ruining the island.

That said the answer to residential housing shortages is better and taller buildings in St Helier... and an increase in the numbers of working population.

Also, I can't stand development s for the over 55s, quite how this age discrimination is allowed is beyond me, and it doesn't help to create inclusive communities either.
