Heather Watson hits top 100
Guernsey's young tennis star Heather Watson has made it into the world's top 100 ranked juniors.
It follows a sponsorship deal in April, worth £25,000 to Heather and her family, with local firm Sportingbet.
Since then the 16-year-old tennis prodigy has enjoyed her best ever form on the court, which has seen her rise from number 234 in the world to 84 in the new rankings announced yesterday.
Her latest success was a win in the doubles of an international tournament in Austria this weekend, in which she also reached the semi-final of the singles event.
Heather is now one of three British girls in the world top 100, along with Junior Wimbledon winner Laura Robson and Jade Simpson.
Heather's father, Ian Watson, said the sponsorship deal had made an enormous difference, "Heather is now taking part in tournaments that she would not have been able to without this sponsorship deal, and that has given her the competition that she needs to bring out the best in her,’ he said.
‘It has made a big difference, not just in terms of her game but also in her attitude and mental approach. We know she is a promising talent, but now she has the opportunity to fulfil that potential." (from CIonline)
Its great to see her doing so well "Congratulations"
