Crime up 2.9%
Overall crime levels in Jersey have increased by 2.9% compared to the same six months in 2007. That's according to the States of Jersey Police quarterly report.
But the report suggests the rise is only a reflection on how police are tackling street level drug dealing, not that the overall levels of crime are increasing.
Burglaries, vehicle theft and larceny are down by 6%, but malicious damage to buildings and vehicles is up by 5%.
Chief officer Graham Power said jurisdictions the size of Jersey are bound to see short-term fluctuations in crime. But long-term levels are continuing to fall (from CIonline)
