New tribunal for youth care cases
A youth and community tribunal is being launched in Guernsey as part of changes to how young people are dealt with in the care and legal systems.
The three-person panel, which is to be formed in 2009, will hear justice and welfare cases concerning children outside a court environment.
It will look at reports and information before deciding what action is in the best interest of the child.
Anyone interested in sitting on the panel can apply through the States.
In looking at cases, the panel will be able to say whether children should attend a programme to address behaviour, how contact with family members and social workers should be regulated, or if children should be placed in foster care or residential accommodation.
The system is based on a system currently used in Scotland.
A number of road shows will be held later in September to tell people more about the tribunal's work. (from BBC News)

The panel should NOT under any circumstances have any person who is associated in an any shape or form to a born again religion. There are so many youngsters over here whose minds been polluted by these perverted men of evil. In my opinion these far right religious fanatics should be banned and the none local Pentecostals kicked off the island with the local ones having another lobotomy. I am OK with the bog standard believers Priests, vicars sitting on the panel after a total police check but that’s it.
