Health and safety inspector falls off ladder .
A
health and safety inspector had to be rescued by firefighters after he
fell from a ladder while he was carrying out a risk assessment.
The health and safety inspector fell off a ladder while checking an office building
The 55-year-old engineer was checking office buildings when he fell
eight feet onto a flat roof.Firefighters used a hydraulic platform to
rescue the engineer who had suspected back injuries. Friends
Provident, who were employing the inspector to investigate their
buildings at Clyst St Mary, near Exeter, said the injured man was part
of their maintenance team who was carrying out safety checks on the
building when he fell.Spokesman Peter Timberlake said: "He
suffered cuts and bruises but otherwise was unharmed and we wish him
well in his recovery. We will be carrying out a full assessment of how
this
happened."The man was treated and discharged from the Royal Devon and
Exeter Hospital.A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said
risk assessments are essential to prevent accidents in the
future.Health and safety rules have been derided for lacking common
sense following a number of cautious risk assessments. Last
week villagers in Kent were told that their annual festival, where a
swashbuckling literary hero rides through the streets, was under threat
after health and safety officials said the character would have to walk
because he might fall off. This summer a children's amber hunt
that has taken place on a beach in Suffolk for the last seven years was
cancelled after the organisers were warned they would have to complete
a risk assessment of the danger of a child being swept out to sea.
Now that has made my day :PMSL:
