‘If I can’t build a house, I’ll keep pigs and chickens’
MICK LE TISSIER has taken the Environment Department at its word. For some years, he had been denied permission to build a bungalow on land at Rue de la Hougue, Castel.
He has accepted defeat and instead has followed a recommendation by then Environment minister Deputy David De Lisle that the site was suitable for chickens and pigs by submitting an application for chicken huts and a pig sty.
He had tried to sell the plot, which is classed as horticultural land, for £75,000, but had no takers. He now has his smallholding up and running and is proud of it.
‘I’m getting some more chickens and probably another cock bird. The two pigs are meant to come some time next week. The chickens are laying eggs and I’m selling them on the hedge outside my home. As long as I can pay for their food and I get pleasure out of it, I will continue.’
But he has already had some complaints about the noise, especially early in the morning. He said the States had contacted him about it but told him they could not do anything because they had granted the permission. (from thisisguernsey)
lol.. sounds could more trouble ahead if he get more birds...

Fair play to the guy, the states told him he can only put chickens and pigs there, so he has, states cannot really stop him now, if there has been complaints made. The guy might have been a bit stubborn previously, but he now is doing as he has been told, i watch
with interest to see what, if any, excuses/reasons are given by the states if they try to act on noise complaints.

I have been following this story for sometime and i say fair play to him , when you think what used to be there old derelict greenhouses and he made a great garden with the land . All he wanted is to put a bungalow on the site but no chance . Its not like its in the middle of a field there are houses all around it and even an ex-hotel . So go on Mick fill the place up with Chickens ,and Pigs . IMO the environment department are the worse states department on the island.
