States must not leave a careless legacy: Fallaize
Borrowing to build by the States would leave a careless legacy for future generations, according to one Guernsey deputy.
Deputy Matt Fallaize said politicians who wanted to be remembered for providing new schools and hospitals should also address how to pay for those things today – not burden the island’s next generation.
‘It would be a historic, grave mistake for this States to undermine Guernsey’s commitment to prudent economic management. Borrowing to fund projects with no income would be grossly irresponsible,’ he said.
Education minister Carol Steere has said the States would need to borrow money if major projects were going to get under way.
Those included redevelopment of Les Beaucamps and La Mare de Carteret schools, the airport runway repairs and investment in mental health care – all of which are competing for priority funding.(from thisisguernsey)
This man is so right...
