No rise in winter fuel allowance
People on benefits will not get a rise in their supplementary fuel allowance this winter, the States has said.
There had been calls for the £22.70 weekly payment to be increased after a big rise in the cost of coal.
But Social Security decided not to ask the House to increase the allowance, unless there was very cold weather.
Minister Mark Dorey said although he was unhappy at the increase in coal prices, cheaper coal was available on the island.
Earlier this month the price of a 25kg (55lb) bag of coal rose from £7.50 to £11.
Guernsey Coal said the increase was necessary to cover higher exchange rates and higher shipping and transport costs (BBC News)
