Island bobby hangs up handcuffs
Alderney's police sergeant has hung up his handcuffs for the last time.
Jeff Hill, 55, arrived on the island three years ago, from Worcestershire in the UK.
Before he retired he was in charge of two permanent constables in the island, population 2,400, although a fourth permanent officer is being recruited.
Mr Hill said he had enjoyed his time in the island, but society had to engage with Alderney's youth for the benefit of the island.
He said: "After I started work here, one of the first things I did was to ask the people what they thought we needed to tackle."
That led to a policing plan which he said had improved policing.
He said policing on the island was very different to his previous beat.
"People over here are nice to policemen," he said.
"That's something which makes a refreshing change.
"Alderney's a very safe place and that's something the UK lost a long time ago." (from thisisguernsey)
