Crowcroft: We have a crisis of leadership

THE Island is facing an unprecedented crisis of confidence in leadership, warns the man who considered running for Chief Minister.
The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, has cancelled an official visit to Bad Wurzach in Germany to stay in Jersey to try to take control of the ‘crisis’, following the suspension of the States police chief over the historical abuse investigation and the damning report by the Howard League for Penal Reform about the youth justice system.
Mr Crowcroft, who was due to fly out this morning to the German town where Channel Islanders were interned during the Second World War, said that he was particularly concerned about the way the historical abuse investigation at Haut de la Garenne was handled and the former practices at Greenfields youth remand home.
This afternoon he was due to meet Home Affairs Minister Andrew Lewis to seek answers over the way in which police chief Graham Power was suspended. At the weekend Mr Crowcroft informed States Members, through e-mail, of his concerns about the government’s treatment of senior staff and has called for urgent meetings into the matter. It's meltdown time in corrupt Jersey.........

I know he is only in the running for Chief Minister but at least he is putting his island before jetting off all over the place not like ours.

So Alan Crowcroft isn't going to Germany, good.

I never see the point of town twinning so beloved of those who get to visit the twinned towns at the Rate Payers expense.

How long was the trip supposed to be that it was so important it was cancelled so that the Con. could deal with the leadership 'crisis'. If anything surely he should've been in Jersey for the, it could be argued more important, matter of Deputies elections?

Surely it's more in the remit of a Deputy, as elected political representatives, to question the ministers leadership than the Con. as a parochial administrator?
