Eurovision 2009
Andrew Lloyd Webber has unveiled the six hopefuls he has chosen to bid for glory at the Eurovision Song Contest. Two male soloists, two female singers, a duo consisting of twin sisters and an all-male quintet will do battle in BBC One show Your Country Needs You. Andrew Lloyd Webber will write the song for the successful act, set to take part in May's competition in Moscow. After a series of live shows, the winning act, which is chosen by the public, will be revealed on 31 January. The first programme takes place on Saturday 10 January on BBC One. Dire results Graham Norton, who is hosting the programme, will take over from Sir Terry Wogan as the UK's commentator on the Eurovision final, which is taking place on 16 May in the Russian capital. The female solo hopefuls are Essex teenager Charlotte and Jade from east London - billed as Plaistow's very own Rihanna. Mark from south Wales and Damien, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter from London, have been picked to represent the male soloists. The Twins - Francine and Nicola - are also in the running, along with vocal group Emperors of Soul. Lloyd Webber, who has taken on the challenge of improving the UK's dire results in recent song contests, said: "I think on the whole we've got a proper set of contestants." At last year's competition in Belgrade, UK singer Andy Abraham finished last in a field of 25 entrants. Will it make a difference somehow I don't think so |
Re: Eurovision 2009
The main attraction of watching Eurovision for me now is listening to how sarcastic Terry Wogan has become regarding political voting etc.
If I didn't know better, I'd think he was psychic. How on earth does he manage to correctly guess how each country will vote for another! LMAO

Re: Eurovision 2009
Jade Ewen will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest final after triumphing on Your Country Needs You last night.
The 21-year-old Londoner was chosen in a public vote over rival acts The Twins (Francine and Nicola Gleadall) and Mark Evans.
Ewen impressed viewers with performances of Beyoncé's 'Deja Vu', 'Lady Marmalade' and her own version of 'My Time', composed especially for the show by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Commenting on the result, Lloyd Webber said: "The Eurovision show started Abba, it started Riverdance and it's going to start the career of this incredibly talented young woman."
Welsh singer Evans finished in third place in the public vote, while The Twins were the competition's runner-ups.
Lloyd Webber had previously vowed to snub the Eurovision final if the public chose the wrong act to represent the UK.
He has now promised to play the piano for Ewen when she performs at the event in Moscow on May 16.
I thought the twins did a better job, but I cannot see Britain winning this..

Re: Eurovision 2009
The strange thing about the competition was that the winner was undoubtably the best singer but was not the best act singing the particular song that will be in the contest,
The Twins who were probably the worst singers of the 3 finalists but sang the eurovision song far better than the other 2 solo acts and based on that should have won.
They brought life to what is quite a boring song.
The song need harmonies so hopefully they will rearrange it for Jade if she stands any chance at all.
I think Andrew Lloyd Webbers reputation across europe will make a little difference to the scoring and it should get some votes from most countries.

Re: Eurovision 2009
I think some of the eastern block country's only entered the competition later on, although I might be mistaken.
