Charges For Blood Tests
the charge for a nurse at your surgery to give you a blood test has now increased to £21 .I phoned my surgery to find out about this increase to be told that there is no longer a discounted charge of about £7 if you paid for your test when you had it done. This is apparently a management decision.you will now be paying for a consultation with the nurse.imo this giant increase is totally ludicrous in this time of belt tightening.so phone your surgeries or better still write to them and complain about this huge increase. :x

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
if you book in at pathology the tests are free, dont ever not have tests if you have been advised too , you could put your health at risk,
if you are with odd fellows they pay for all blood test however many you have

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
At the risk of sounding pedantic there is no charge for blood testing in Guernsey. This is all done at the pathology lab at the PEH and no charge is made. The charge in question is that for taking blood samples at the island's three private G.P. practises before they arte sent to the PEH for testing. I don't know why these have suddenly been increased. Has this happened at all three practises? I'm afraid the option of everybody having blood taken at the path lab is not a practical one as it would totally swamp them. They have to limit their blood taking services to patients where who require a specialist service for clinical reasons.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
it is the principle chok.to suddenly increase the cost at the surgery is imo just greed.they have also increased the cost of a doctors visit.peter r i did say the charge was at the surgery.you are now paying for a nurses consultation and yes i believe it is across all the islands practices.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
an update on the blood taking saga.i have over the past couple of days been making enquiries into this.it is now apparent that it is only the queens road medical group who has increased to £21 plus the £6 states grant so in effect £27 to see a nurse to have your blood taken.i have spoken to the other medical groups and their charge is if paid at the time of the test £7 .i will be moving to another group as imo this is greed on the part of queens road

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
This is disgusting i know of a lot of people who are refusing to go for much needed blood-tests for the simple reason is they can not afford the extorsionate prices , people should vote with their feet and change to a different practice . I am (at the moment) a patient at Queens road , it is not often i go but when i have i have not seen the same Doctor twice . So i may give the pleasure of my heavenly body to another practice.
And by the way i am covered by medical insurance from work so i pay nothing but its the principle of them charging huge prices to those who are no as fortunate as me.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
have told queens road surgery today that we are leaving the practice.i was told we could be charging you £45 for a blood test but we decided to split the difference.i was told that the surgery is losing £50,000 a year by only charging £21 plus the £7 states grant.when i asked why other medical groups were still charging the discounted price i was told that they are charging insurance companies the full £45 per test.why is it so expensive it certainly isn't paid to the nurse taking your test.so goodbye to queens road and very expensive blood tests.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
I think it is a disgrace that in the 21st centuary people are still having to pay for what in most cases are essential medical procedures. I know that we do not pay for these sort of things here on the mainland, but if they had their way we would. At our local surgery we don't even have a nurse taking our bloods they have trained the secretary to do this job. I have to go regularly for blood test due to a protien in my blood if we had to pay like you peeps on the islands i would be stuggling to keep them up. Thanfully the Scottish Executive has now decided to abolish all prescription charges by 2011. We now get free dental and eye checkups after a long battle to reverse the decision to charge for them.We have to pay for any dental treatment or glasses we require but i dont think it is anywhere near your costs. You would think in a case where someone needed to get bloods taken over a long period that they could charge a block fee similar to that we have here at the moment for prescriptions or would that not be practical.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
this is the only practice charging this extortionate price.it appears other groups are still only charging £7.50 if test is paid for on the day.it is fact the charge is for the nurse to do the test as the surgery is not charged by the hospital for actually testing the bloods.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
Guess as some folk re saying if you change your practice they might take notice of a drop in revenue. How easy is it to change doctors.
i know it can be a bit of a chore here.

Re: Charges For Blood Tests
Not here - as we pay for visits we can change our doctor if we so wish - I think with the surgery concerned it is in an affluent area of St Peter Port and most of the patients can afford their prices.....I do not use it myself :x
