Guernsey Eggs back on the shelf
The new owner of Guernsey's Castel Farm Eggs, says islanders will see even more produce by March.
Steven Brooks has had to start from scratch, after the farm's chickens were culled.
The farm now has more than 4,000 chickens on site and that figure is set to double.
In a year's time the island's main egg producer, Castel Farm, will be at full capacity.
In September 2008 the business was sold and it meant a shortage of locally produced eggs. There are other smaller producers in the island but their produce is not sold on a large scale.
It has been hard work to get Castel Farm going again. The farm has had an unfortunate few years with a fire destroying a lot of the site.
All the farm's chickens were culled as precautionary meassure during a Samonella outbreak in the island.
Steven Brookes is the man behind Chapel Eggs who are supplying produce to the island from the UK. He's now taken over Castel Farm and has got it back on its feet.
With Guernsey priding itself on home grown local produce, the closure of Castel Farm eggs left a huge gap. But the new owner has done a big job in starting from scratch and has given the island what it wants. It's own eggs.
Its good to see this local product back on the shelves...
