Co-op redevelopment plan delayed.
A long-awaited redevelopment in Guernsey has been delayed until new planning laws are introduced.
The idea of redeveloping Leale's Yard behind the Bridge in St Sampson's has been considered for more than 10 years.
The owner, Channel Island Co-operative Society, wants to build a multi-million pound development for retail and residential use.
Chief Executive Jim Hopley said the temporary delay was not directly linked to current economic conditions.
Process updated
Proposals were still moving forward, although very slowly, he said.
"About 15 months ago Guernsey's government decided to update its planning processes," Mr Hopley told BBC News.
"These should come in to play in April, so the decision was made to wait until then."
Mr Hopley said the development would be one of the biggest in the island's history.
Lets hope they get on with this soon as we need to keep the building trade in work.

If they are waiting for the States to update anything we can expect at least another few years before anything is done.

Re: Co-op redevelopment plan delayed.
It does make you wonder, the Bridge seems to by slowly dying and this project will either killit off all together or put new life into it, I am not sure which, at the moment its the Charity Sop capital of the Island.
The original plans had most of the new parking as far away from the bridge as you could get so wont make life easy for current bridge traders.
The Co-Op is not likely to go ahead in the current climate unless they get an insentive from the states.
