Shell Beach could become party venue
BEACH parties and lunch on the White House Hotel lawn could all be on the cards in Herm this summer.
Recently-appointed hospitality director Jonathan Watson is looking at new incentives to bring people to the island.
He arrived in Herm with his family in July 2002 to manage the hotel.
In August 2006, he was appointed general manager of both the hotel and the Mermaid Tavern, employing a manager to run the pub. When John and Julia Singer took over the island’s lease on 1 October, a board meeting was held and Mr Watson was one of three directors appointed.
‘It’s very exciting, but there is so much to do,’ said Mr Watson.
On the agenda are parties on Shell Beach - but plans are still at the preliminary stage because liquor licences would have to be approved. For a couple of weeks either side of the longest day - 21 June - beach parties could be held in a fenced-off area of the beach operating as an alternative to the Captain’s Table service.
There are also plans for an alfresco formal dining area with 30 covers on the lawn in front of the White House. (from thisisguernsey)
Understand the lunch on the lawn, but beach parties mmm not sure if that is going to be a good image for the Island...

I dont see a problem with it as long as its not a drunken rave, you can have a beach party without getting plastered and blasted with hevey music.

Corne on wayside, its bound to tun out into a youngsters piss up,
Half of those who will go to this will be young teens etc who have decided to take their boats across & get totally lashed, then stagger back to the boats, then back to Guernsey.

The young teens will only go if the music and theme is what they like, I would think it would be a sectioned off part of the beach and would be a ticket deal with staff to control those there, if it was just a drunken rave it would be a disaster for the Island.

It does not have to be a Party Beach with people drinking out of bottles, I dont know what they are thinking but I assume its going to be well thought out if they go ahead with it.
