Island faces heating oil shortage .
The Channel island of Alderney is facing a shortage of heating oil.
Alderney Electricity Ltd (AEL) said current supplies were enough
for only a few days and it planned to bring in emergency shipments on
Monday.
It follows a series of delays to deliveries of oil from the
island's supplier, Fuel Supplies Channel Islands Limited, owned by
French company RUBIS.
AEL said arrangements would be made to import small quantities, as there were only a few days' supply left.
Meanwhile, it is believed the power station, which
runs on gas oil, has enough fuel to satisfy normal electricity demand
for another fortnight.
Lets hope they don't run out.

Now you can understand why the States had the good sense to secure your oil and fuel supplies.

The oil does not go to Alderney from here, yes, petrol/road diesel does, on a weekly basis in small tanks carried by Alderney Shipping, for the 3 fuel companies, however, the diesel and kerosene is taken direct by tankship to the island and i think ,the kerosene/heating fuel is stored/delivered by Alderney Electricity.

Re: Island faces heating oil shortage .
Alderney's oil shortage is getting worse.
The last delivery of supplies to the island was in November.
Fuel Supplies Channel Islands have since cancelled 2 scheduled shipments.
And a small delivery due today of 300 tonnes has also been scrapped.
Alderney Electricity say the captain of the vessel's refusing to bring the
boat in.
It looks like the island won't now see any oil come in until the 17th- 4
weeks later than originally planned.
Alderney's now facing an acute shortage of heating oil and islanders are
being asked not to request any supplies unless absolutely necessary
From island fm.

Re: Island faces heating oil shortage .
ALDERNEY has brought in a contingency plan to make sure it doesn’t run out of heating oil.
From tomorrow it is shipping in 23,000 litres at a time from Guernsey to make sure islanders’ central heating can stay switched on.
‘The tank we are sending to Guernsey is our own. In the past it has been used to transport avgas for our power station but this week it will bring heating oil to the islan d,’ said Alderney Electricity chairman Dick Haines.
Despite the necessity, importing oil from Guernsey could force bills back up - just a fortnight after an 8.1% reduction was announced.
‘This measure will cost us 5% more than our normal delivery cost and, if necessary, will be included in the fuel cost component of people’s bills,’ he said.
The problem has been caused by three failed deliveries from Fuel Supplies Channel Islands.
Alderney Electricity has warned customers not to request oil deliveries unless the need is desperate and urged all islanders to limit their use of electricity.
‘A delivery is planned for 17 February and if that takes place there won’t be a problem,’ said Mr Haines (from thisisguernsey)
Sounds like Fuel Supplies/Rubis are breaking their contract?

Re: Island faces heating oil shortage .
I was told by a tanker driver today that they are filling up a 20.000 litre tank tomorrow and two on Saturday.
