Ban shop sales of alcohol to under-21s’
UNDER-21s should be banned from buying alcohol from shops and off-licences in a bid to curb binge drinking.
That is the view of retired States psychiatrist Gil Blackwood who has urged a scrutiny panel to investigate shaking up the Island’s licensing laws and preventing young adults from buying alcohol too easily. Jersey is said to have the biggest alcohol consumption in Europe.
This week Dr Blackwood (pictured) met the Health, Social Security and Housing panel to talk about issues in the mental health service. He told the panel that many of his former patients had addiction problems, which were mainly alcohol related.
‘Alcohol is a huge problem in Jersey and it is getting worse, particularly the binge-drinking culture with women in their 20s and 30s,’ he told the panel (from thisisjersey)
Cannot see this ever happening...

I don't think this would work - if they can't buy them someone else would get them on their behalf - saw this happening when I was at school.

Why not just police the present laws better?
Come down hard on a few of the shops that sell to the underage through negligence, come down even harder on those that are willing to sell knowingly or those willing to buy knowingly or the underage drinkers behalf.
It's not rocket science.
If there's a relevant law that needs changing it's to make it illegal for the underage to possess booze and fags; I passed a group of young, very early teens(or perhaps just stunted growth?), at Minden Place the other day, and they were happy to be smoking and drinking in plain view in the knowledge that nobody gave a damn.

They are too 'busy' policing people who are driving and smoking or on the mobile phone at the same time - and they hardly ever catch them - and I see plenty! so if they can't hit the easy targets - kids will get away with getting booze!!!
