Deputies told they don't understand consequences of Big Money Projects
The Chief Minister's warning politicians they don't get what spending millions on big projects will mean….
Deputy Lyndon Trott is hopeful a 2-month delay on their capital
prioritisation debate will give some members more time to get their
heads around the financial consequences. Projects like runway
refurbishment or redeveloping schools could see the States having to
borrow millions. Some deputies have criticised the delay, saying these
projects need to get started as soon as possible. But Deputy Trott says
its right to look at how they spend their money before choosing what to
spend it on

Re: Deputies told they don't understand consequences of Big Money Projects
Hold on, is the piece Thistle wrote a direct quote or has she para phrased it. It isn't in quotation marks and there is no mention from where it has come. You are both assuming it is a factual quote of what he said.
You may not have much respect for the man and have a pop at every chance but stand back and take more time to get your heads around what he is saying. I think he is showing some sense in reminding members. He doesn't decide what the money is spent on, the States do, and if they all want their pet project to go through without great thought then before we know it we are up to our neck in debt.
We all know the States spend money like water mainly because it is not theirs, it doesn't come out of their bank account and no one is accountable, so some quiet reflection on the future is not a bad thing.

the piece was courtesey of cable and wireless website plimmerton.i copied and pasted the piece as it was written.does something always have to be in quotation marks before it is deemed to be correct.
he seems to be showing very little respect for some of his fellow deputies.some of these projects need to go through .for example the mental health relocation of the castel hospital and the building of new residential units for people with learning disabilities.within that need the hssd should also be looking at the lack of provision of respite care in guernsey.only 2 adult and 4 childrens respite beds to service very many clients who need to access the service.

Re: Deputies told they don't understand consequences of Big Money Projects
If it is a direct quote then it should be in the marks and where it came from should be stated. I see that this is done most of the time that is why I questioned it.
Perhaps some of his fellow deputies deserve little respect however as the boss I think it is his duty to remind and we should give him some credit for doing so. At least he appears to realise that we could be in trouble and remember the new marina idea that cropped up recently, what a waste of money.
For sure there are projects that have to happen but there are some that don't (in the short term), we have to cut our cloth to suit and reduce the wish list and in some areas make do.
