the first pub i ever bought a drink in in guernsey was the golden lion.i can even remember what the order was.it was a pint of guinness ,a whisky and lemonade and 20 gold leaf.even got change out of 50p.lol

Good gods CDJ, for once we're in total agreement.
Brian Gilbertson, or as he was affectionately known with the locals as "the Ferret" was one of the best Publicans I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
I dont know if you know about the "boys" nights he used to hold at Christmas time. He suggested that the "girls" have a similar night. After said night he was heard to say that "I thought the boys knew how to enjoy yourselves, but you girls take the cake".
Fond memories indeed.
