Im not 100% sure how many died but ive only read of one which had a heart attack, maybe you know of more,a horse could have heart attack anyday of the week even stood in a field doing nothing.
Is it worth it ? Yes
I assume you think different,do you think horses dislike racing ?

I would expect most race horses get treated very well, whats your alternative option if they are not to be used for racing ?
A person got killed yesterday crossing the road, does that mean we all stop crossing roads ?
Race horses are bred to race simple as.

Re: The Grand National
its not only the racing i object to, if you had someone whipping you, wouldnt you run as fast as they told you to? but it`s all the suffering that goes on, huge amounts of race horses are breed, only a few make the grade, the rest are sold to meat markets and cruelly slaughtered, some are sold to people who then go on to abuse and neglect them as the case in amersham recently with mr james gray will show you, so its not all about the racing for me.
and i dont think it means we stop crossing the road, we all make decisions when and where to cross a road, a horse hasnt made that decision, he hasnt woken up one day and thought , yanno, i think i`ll be a race horse so i can get injured, but my owner will still want to make money out of me so i`ll race on my injured leg.
so each to thier own choice but i dont see it that way, i love animals to bits, if only you knew the extent of what id do to save an animal from distress so i guess its a case of each to thier own.

Re: The Grand National
A 1000lb horse with a 100 pound jockey on top,i think if the horse didnt want to run it wouldnt, some extracts from another forum
It started with the Arabian. It is in their heart and soul. If they did not run, it would be suffering for them, they need it like they need water.
Go visit Kentucky horse country, I dare you. Spend time there and then say they don't love to run or that they are not most beloved by the people that own and work with them.
Speak not what you do not know.
--------------------------------------------
while we cannot ask horses if they love to race there is one reason that i believe that they do. i have ridden an shown horses for several years, and why that is not as strenous as racing it taught me that the horse will always win. horses weigh around 1000 lbs, much bigger than the 100lbs jockyes that ride them, if they did not want to run they would not. any horse i rode did what i asked of him because we were a team and if for some reason he did not want to then he would not do it. if any race horse did not want to run they would not, they are just like any human runner they do what they do because they want to
-------------------------------------------------
"There is always going to be an element of risk, but I am sure the horses like to race. The natural reaction of wild horses is to gallop in a group. If it is natural behaviour then, in human terms, one has to assume they are enjoying it."
--------------------------------------------------
You can watch animal aid on tv every week and see members of the public who own horses and leave them in a disgraceful condition?

Re: The Grand National
Whats your opinion of these 3 pit bull terriers ? Do you adore them?
NAKHON SAWAN: -- A woman was mauled to death by 3 pit bull terriers, which also injured her three relatives and killed another local dog, police said.
Police said Raksina Techawatanabamrungkij, 37, was killed late Friday night after she released the three pit bull terriers from the cage into the compound of her family's rice mill.
Her mother-in-law, Charoensri Lorlertrat, 53, her daughter, Thaweephan Lorlertrat, 20 months, and her brother-in-law, Satit Lorlertrat, 33, were injured by the dogs.
Charoensri told police that Raksina left the house to release the terriers from their cage at about midnight but she did not come back inside, prompting her daughter to cry.
Charoensri came out to look for her and found her badly-mauled body along with a local pet dog of the family.
The pit bull terriers then turned to attack Charoensri and her granddaughter. She cried for help and when her son came out to help, he was also attacked.
Eventually, Charoensri's husband, Seksuek Lorlertrat, came out to help and shot two terriers dead while the other one escaped.

Re: The Grand National
you could say the same about human beings, men and women kill also, a lot of these pit bull dogs have been bred by man to kill and injure, so you cant really blame the animals, you could go on about bull`s and how people are trampled to death etc but if humans didnt taunt them they wouldnt do it, this like with most things ignorance is bliss
