Water charge rise to be debated
People in Alderney could see their water bills rise by 10% for the fourth year in a row if plans to raise charges are approved by the island's States.
However, the proposed price hike is not enough to cover operating costs, the General Services committee says.
There was a £32,000 shortfall last year but the 2009 deficit could be larger.
Despite this, the States have rejected plans to increase fees by more than 10% because of the impact that would have on people on low incomes.
If the 10% price rise is agreed on 22 June, the new charges will come into effect three days later and will be reflected in the quarterly water bill received by residents in September. (from BBC)
