Price of a hole
States members and residents in Alderney gathered Wednesday to hear what was going to happen after a hole was found in the foundation of the island's £10 million Commercial Quay.
The ramifications of the hole may be minor or may be major, according to States Member Colin Williams who chaired the meeting.
Alderney's Policy and Finance Committee are asking the States to urgently approve a £68,000 non-intrusive survey of the Upper Berth West Wall of the Commercial Quay development.
The stability of the Upper Berth is in question because of the hole, potentially putting the whole harbour at risk.
The money's already been approved by Guernsey's Treasury and Resources Department.
Subject to results, however, a further intrusive survey may be required at an additional cost of up to £100,000.
Local politicians being asked to approve, at next week’s States Meeting, the survey of the Upper Berth west wall.

Re: Price of a hole
Would be cheaper just to fill the holes with concrete, or they will probably do a survey for £68,000 which will say the hole need filling with concrete.
