Young Islanders avoid volunteering because of its 'Old People Image'

There's a fear young islanders aren't getting involved in volunteer work
because of its image.

Sarah Bamford is the chair of Volunt-here and says they're having a tough
time convincing youngsters of the benefits of volunteering.

She thinks their put off because volunteer work has a reputation as something
older people do.

A new survey in the UK's found 72% of employers believe doing unpaid
community work improves your job prospects.

wow im young islander and the reason i haven't volunteered is because no one offers it to us spoken to a lot of people about this, this afternoon no one has been told anything about volunteering.

Maybe its more the fact they haven't told young people about it rather than us not wanting to do it????

And bone idle yeah i will admit there are some like that but there are some us who would maybe if they advertised rather than acuse us of not doing it they would get more young people, that is the problem in this island too many people accuse us young people of being lazy, cant be bothered well how are we ment to about these things when we are not told about them?

the befriending service is usually looking for volunteers to become friends with and spend time with people with learning disabilities.i will see if i can find some info for the youngsters who might be interested.
