ISLANDERS who have to post items to the UK are being advised to do so as soon as possible to avoid the effects of a national postal strike.
No strike action is expected before 19 October at the earliest, and as a result Jersey Post are advising anyone who needs to send an item by normal post to do so quickly.
The States-owned utility says it will be implementing ‘contingency plans’ if a national strike by Royal Mail workers goes ahead. The general manager of postal services, Andy Jéhan, said: ‘We have a range of contingencies available. There has been limited action going on for 15 weeks and we have managed to minimise disruption.’
Asked if Jersey Post would be prepared to use private-sector operators other than the Royal Mail to deliver in the UK, he said: ‘We will keep our options open.’ (from JEP)
