Alderney finance deal questioned
The president of Alderney States has questioned the island's current financial arrangements with Guernsey.
In a recent newsletter he suggested Alderney should be allowed to have its own contingency fund.
Sir Norman Browse said the island faces challenges in the future which could need additional funding.
He believes the island should save some of its income for when it is needed, but this would mean renegotiating its financial arrangement with Guernsey.
Sir Norman said the challenges which Alderney faced included an ageing population, the effects of climate change, the need to renew the island's drains and the development of tidal power, which he hopes will provide a valuable source of income. (from BBC)
