New attempt made to halt Suez incinerator
PLANS to build a £93m. energy-from-waste plant at Longue Hougue face another challenge in the States.
Jan Kuttelwascher has submitted a requete that, if successful, will force Public Services to go back to the Assembly to get approval before the Suez contract can be signed.
Four deputies who voted for the Suez plant – Mark Dorey, Jane Stephens, Mike Hadley and Martin Storey – have signed the requete. Deputies Gloria Dudley Owen and David De Lisle are the other signatories.
Deputy Kuttelwascher (pictured) said he had only spoken to about half of States members but was confident that at least 20 of them would support the move.
‘There are other people who supported the incinerator who have said they would support the requete but wouldn’t sign it,’ he said.
The requete was primarily aimed at saving money, though it could enable other schemes to be considered.(from BBC)
