UK experts examine outfall pipe
The work is expected to take five days |
Specialists from the UK are in Guernsey to inspect the Red Lion Auxiliary sewage outfall at Belle Greve.
High tech equipment is being used to assess what work will be needed in future.
The iron pipe, which has been there since the early 1900s, is only used as an occasional back-up to the main long sea outfall.
The work is being timed to coincide with the spring tide as it will leave the majority of the outfall exposed.
An inspection was last carried out in March and found some obstructions in the pipe.
Colin Gaudion, the senior project advisor for Public Services, says it
is important the work takes place as any obstructions in the pipe can
restrict the flow when the pipe is used.
The work is expected to last for five days.
"So why do we need experts we have two or three company's here that have camera's and special cleaning equipment . So how much is this going to cost when we should be only spending what we really need to , they should be concentrating on sewage treatment not playing around with pipes".
