Paedophiles’ sentences ‘need review’
Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand
PAEDOPHILES’ sentences should be reviewed now that there is a greater awareness of the extent of victims’ suffering, according to the Home Affairs Minister.
Senator Ian Le Marquand said that the historical abuse inquiry had made people more appreciative of how victims of sexual abuse can be affected.
He will be discussing sentencing parameters with the Bailiff, Michael Birt, later this year. ‘There may be a case for reconsideration for paedophile offences and I will be looking into it,’ he said. ‘But these matters are up to the courts and all I can do is act as a catalyst.
‘What has changed is that there’s far greater realisation of the serious psychological damage suffered by victims. I don’t think it is a matter that was really appreciated until the last five years.’ (from JEP)
Lock them up and throw away the key.... that's my opnion...

GD says"Lock them up and throw away the key.... that's my opinion"
I say that's the soft option.

Physical castration as opposed to so called chemical castration which requires them to self administer. In addition they should be permanently tagged.

Re: Paedophiles’ sentences ‘need review’
Guernsey still lags behind with no sex offenders register, despite murmurings that we were going to have it sometime back. If the States don't push for that then I very much doubt that any other measures, real or perceived, will follow any time soon!

Why do you think Guernsey (and Jersey) are so soft on these awful crimes? Nothing to do with influential people being involved in them I don't suppose? Senior school teachers, advocates, civil servants etc.
The Jersey situation makes me sick, putting the finance industry's reputation before the truth, and the cover up goes from the very top (Bailiff, Chief Minister etc) down. The whole sorry lot of them ought to be ashamed, not to mention ousted out of office.
And who's to say the situation is much better over here? Remember the advocate with tens of thousands of child porn images on his computer? He was declared unfit to stand trial on medical grounds, yet only weeks before he was a fully practising advocate. Disgraceful.
